Q & A
When is the best time to have my newborn session?
The best time to have a newborn photography session is within the first two weeks of your baby's life. During this time, your baby is still very sleepy and can be easily posed in different positions without much disturbance. They are also less likely to be fussy or suffer from colic, which can make the session more challenging.
After two weeks, babies tend to become more alert, more active, and may develop baby acne, which can make it harder to capture those sleepy, curled up poses. However, every baby is unique, and some may require different timing for their photography session. It's always best to discuss with your photographer to determine the best time for your baby's session based on their temperament and any medical issues they may have.
I recommend you book while still pregnant as we only book in a limited number of newborns a month. We pop in a temporary booking on your due date then once baby arrives we book you in at a time that suits.
What if my baby is older?
Babies are beautiful at any age. If your little one is older then 2 weeks I can still book you in. From 6 weeks they usually start to smile and this milestone is precious. No they no longer curl up but I can still attempt some poses safely.
Are siblings welcome & can we get some family photos at our session?
Yes of course everyone is included in all our sessions. This is such a beautiful time and family is important.
If your little one is shy or isn't too fussed on the new baby we have special tricks to overcome this. Especially the young siblings that don't quite understand why this new baby has arrived. We take the time to capture those magical images.
How important is newborn safety to you?
Oh this is at the top of my list! Newborn safety is my top priority.
I will not attempt any unsafe poses including the froggy pose and no baby is ever in danger in my studio.
Unsafe posing and composite images look unnatural (in my opinion), I'm sure your baby doesn't enjoy having their feet near their ears and resting on their elbows. We keep things natural, yes we curl them up but we never force a newborn into a position.
Having 14 years experience with newborns has made me realize that babies are beautiful when left alone, many times I have posed a baby then left them and they are just beautiful and I capture all their little features.
So sorry if you are after the froggy pose I'm not your photographer and I wish you the best.
Are you fully vaccinated against whooping cough?
I am surprised not many people ask me this question. Since I am one of the first people to meet your new baby I think this is one of the most important questions. Yes I am fully vaccinated against whooping cough, I also get my yearly flu injection and have had my covid injections too.
I understand how important this is and it should be one of the first questions new parents ask.
Remember the slogan "No Vacs No Visit"
Will I be pressured into upgrading or purchasing products?
I love my products and would love for you to purchase them but I will never pressure you into buying them or upgrading your package. I understand everyone has a limit. We are upfront with all costs and there is no hidden prices like some studios. You will receive an invoice to be paid 48 hours before your session and if you choose later to upgrade (remember no pressure) then I invoice you for the difference.
What if my toddler or child has a massive meltdown at the session?
Oh this happens alot. Please don't worry toddlers are just that, full of energy and not always ready to sit still and have a photo taken. I take the time to play with them before the camera comes out so they get used to me, remember I'm a stranger to them.
If they have a meltdown then we stop and let them be or we let them go and come back when they are more comfortable and happy to be included.
Feel free to bring their favourite toy and most importantly snacks & drinks.
I am a mum to 3 boys so know that things don't always go according to plan. Have a chat with them before the session to let them know what to expect.
What should we wear and bring to our session?
I recommend keeping it simple. Neutral colours with a pop of colour. Depending on your location or session.
My studio is kept warm for newborns so lightweight is always good. Plus don't forget if you are breastfeeding something you are comfortable in to feed.
Please stay away from large patterns or logos on t-shirts especially for newborn sessions as these can take away from the baby.
Please bring snacks & drinks as sessions can be long. Also if older children are coming an ipad can be great (limited time of course)
We have some beautiful local parks if older children feel the need to run during a newborn session.
What if it rains on the day or our session?
Outdoor sessions will need to be rescheduled if it's raining. There is no cost to you to reschedule. I will make the decision but will talk to you about it first. Overcast days are ok but again we will discuss this together.
Studio sessions can happen rain, hail or shine. I have both beautiful natural light and studio lighting.
What if a family member is sick on the day?
Sickness is another thing I take seriously. If a family member is unwell on the day of your session please contact me asap. I'm very happy to reschedule at no cost to you. Not only is it not fun for the sick person it also puts myself and others at risk. We are constantly cleaning the studio before and after each session but sick children or people are best to rest at home.
Do I need to pay a deposit and when is my session payment due?
You are required to pay a $100 deposit to secure your booking. This is non refundable for change of mind but I'm happy to reschedule if someone is unwell or the weather is bad.
When you book your session you will receive a questionnaire, there is a questions asking about which package you would like to book.
48 hours before your session you will be asked to pay your invoice, if at anytime you would like to upgrade a session or purchase products a separate invoice will be sent for the difference.
These are just a few questions you might think of but if at anytime you have a different question please ask! No questions is silly.
Please remember I'm a mum too so know that this can be stressful but I'm here to guide and support you through this process.
